How do I change the color of text and elements?

Canva elements come in a wide variety of colors, and you can even customize elements by adding your own colors. Every color in Canva is represented by a six digit "color code" or hex code.

You can customize the colors of any text or illustration element in our image library.

Here’s how:

Select an element

Click on an element you would like to customize to select and open its edit menu. Then, click the color button in the editor toolbar; a square filled with the element’s current color.

Select the Color button

Clicking the color button will open the color menu. The color menu will feature a color palette of some basic colors, as well as any colors you recently used in your design. You can change the color of your element to any of these colors by clicking on any one of the circles. If you would like a different color, click the Add new color button, shaped like a plus sign.

Select Add new color

This will open the color wheel. Click and drag the small white circle around the color wheel until you find the exact hue you'd like to use for your element. You can also drag the value slider on the bottom to adjust how light or dark your color is.

Copy and paste a color code

If you know the HEX code of the color you’d like to use, you can copy and paste its six-digit color code into the field marked “color code #” in the color wheel menu. You can also use this feature to copy a color code from one Canva design to another design.

Note: When you first click on a text element, we will select every character in the text box for you. If you want to change the color of some of the text, click and drag to highlight the text you would like to change. Then click the color button, and follow the steps listed above.

You can also change the font color by copying the HEX code of the color. You can copy and paste its six-digit color code into the field marked “color code #” in the color wheel menu.
