How do I add a ruler or use guides to align elements?

In Canva, you may often find the need to properly align elements with one another. For example: Center, left-align or right-align an element.

  1. Guidelines automatically appear when you drag an element around the design space.
  2. To activate static and individual guidelines of your choice (vertical and or horizontal), press Command and ; at the same time. Next, hover your mouse over the top or left side of the design space, click the border, and drag the guidelines accordingly. 
  3. To activate static guidelines that do not move while you are designing, simply press Command and ; twice at the same time. You can remove these guidelines by pressing Command and ; once again. 

01. Automatically appearing guidelines

When you click or drag an element, the guidelines will automatically appear.

           

These guidelines are dynamic and are very useful when you would like to align elements relative to other elements, or when you would like to align elements relative to the design space.

02. Adjustable guidelines

Sometimes you may need to see static and individual guidelines at all times while designing. Further you may also need these to be vertically and or horizontally oriented. To do so, press Command and ; at the same time, hover your mouse over the top or left side of the design space, click on the border, and drag the guidelines accordingly. 

03. Heavy static vertical guidelines

If you would like static guidelines that do not move while you are designing, you can activate this feature by simply pressing Command and ; twice at the same time.

At this time, you now have three types of guidelines to properly align the elements in your design. To remove these guidelines simply press Command and ; at the same time.
